In Korean, the particle 에 is used to indicate place and time. It marks the location where actions take place or where something is located.

Note: that a location is not always expressed by the word "에" if a sentence is not used to express someone's place. Example:

In the first example "hospital" acts as an object while in the second example "hospital" acts as a location, so the word that follows "hospital" in the examples above is different. In addition "에", adverb of place can be expressed by the word "에서". Both have the same meaning, but "에서" is usually used to express the existence that is not followed by the word "있다" at the end of the sentence. The following is the use of the word "에서" which is used to express place.
1. To say “where do you come from?”.
2. To say “Go down or Go out of the bus or other places.”
3. To say “Go out of the room.”

More Examples:
> 나는 인도에서 이 인형을 샀다 
   (I buy this doll in India)
> 저는 인도네시야에서 왔었어요 
   (I come from Indonesia)
> 나는 Ngurah Rai 공항에서 내릴거야 
   (I will get off at Ngurah Rai Airport)
> 이환자는 응급실에서 나왔어요 
   (This patient go out (left) from the emergency room)
